Windows update fails to install updates for 5 days now
About 2 weeks ago I started getting the message windows defender error 0x800106ba defender can not continue and has closed down. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version from microsoft but I still have the same problem. any suggestions.

I have applied all Defender updates from the Windows Update site. Also, it appears that my Vista gadgets do not show when this Defender pop-up is seen. Only when the Defender error is NOT seen at boot do I actually get to see my gadgets (weird). Any thoughts? I've already gone to the Defender forums with NO success

I narrowed the error down to Windows Defender doing a scan of my machine. Any manual scans also cause the computer to produce this stop code error.
